Why Cogveil

A considered approach to watch repair

Transparent assessment

Before any work begins, we walk you through what we find and what we intend to do. No surprises on the invoice.

Full documentation

Each piece is logged from intake to collection. Timing readings, parts used, and observations are recorded and shared with the owner.

All work in-house

We do not subcontract. Every movement that comes to us is handled at our bench in Jalan Sultan Ismail by the same technician throughout.

Respect for originals

For vintage pieces, we source period-appropriate components and follow conservation-minded methods that preserve the character of the watch.

Regular updates

For longer restorations, progress photographs are shared at each stage so you remain informed without needing to call in.

Honest pricing

Our pricing reflects the actual work involved. Quotes are fixed before we begin, and any unforeseen findings are discussed before proceeding.

Common questions

Before you bring your watch in

What brands and calibres do you service?

We work on a wide range of Swiss and Japanese mechanical movements — Seiko, ETA, Unitas, Miyota, FHF, and similar calibres commonly found in everyday and collector pieces. We do not service quartz movements or smartwatches. If you are unsure whether we can help with a particular piece, a quick message with the reference is welcome.

How long does a service typically take?

A standard mechanical movement service generally takes two to three weeks. Crystal and crown replacements are usually completed within three to five working days. Vintage bench restorations are longer — typically six to ten weeks — and we will give you a clearer timeline once we have assessed the piece. We do not rush work, and we will let you know if something unexpected extends the schedule.

Do I need to bring the watch in person?

We prefer that pieces are brought in directly so we can assess the watch and discuss the work with you. Our atelier is at 14 Jalan Sultan Ismail, 50250 Kuala Lumpur. We are open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 7pm. If you are coming from outside Kuala Lumpur, do contact us first so we can ensure someone is available to receive you.

Are the prices listed final, or could they change?

The published prices reflect typical work for a standard piece. After assessment, we provide a written quote before any work begins. If we find something unexpected during the service — a damaged part that needs sourcing, for example — we discuss the additional cost with you before proceeding. We do not carry out work beyond the agreed scope without your approval.

Is my watch insured while it is with you?

Each piece is logged at intake with condition notes and photographs. Our workshop is secured and the pieces in our care are stored appropriately. For high-value pieces, we recommend discussing the intake process with us directly so we can agree on handling and documentation to your satisfaction.

What information do I get back when collecting my watch?

For mechanical services, you receive a written summary detailing the work performed, parts replaced, and before-and-after timing readings. For vintage restorations, a printed service record accompanies the piece. We find this useful for collectors who maintain records of their watches, and it provides a reference point for future servicing.
